Now Israel loved Joseph more than his other sons because Joseph was a son born to him in his old age, and he made a robe of many colors for him.

After Thought

Jacob (Israel) loved Joseph because he had a pure heart and was not like his brothers in their self serving ways. A coat of colors was usually worn by royalty, and would prove to be prophetic. Love sees the royalty in others.

Having less space was a sign of fruitfulness and blessing. This was a promise of converts who would come to be a comfort. There are times when the church is desolate and few in number; yet its desolations shall not last for ever, and God will repair them.
