Many of us by our own volition have made a mess of our lives. God by His grace can make a miracle out of our mess. Paul knew this well because he went from persecuting the cause of Christ to preaching for the cause of Christ.

The Bible says that "out of that which fills the heart the mouth speaks" (Luke 6:45). This explains why David wanted God to help control his speech so that in anger no vain or inappropriate word would come out during his prayer time that would defile it.
