At last Jonathan said to David, "Go in peace, for we have sworn loyalty to each other in the LORD's name. The LORD is the witness of a bond between us and our children forever.

After Thought

David and Jonathan swore before the Lord to be a protection one to the other. They gave each other a sense of peace in the knowledge that treachery and betrayal would never come through them against the other.
